Understanding the Saline Tattoo Removal Method

Our saline tattoo removal technique uses Botched Ink, a premium, sterile saline solution in a single-use package that is deposited into the skin to draw out unwanted pigment through osmosis. This process gently lifts foreign pigment particles out of the skin regardless of their color, making the saline method exceptionally beneficial for facial permanent makeup of all hues.

Like any tattoo removal method, this process requires multiple sessions depending on the depth and color of the tattoo, but it offers a controlled, gradual fading that preserves skin integrity. The saline method has been in the market since the 1980s, almost as long as laser technology, making it a proven and trusted method.

Because facial skin is highly delicate, selecting the correct technique is vital to protect your skin structure from permanent damage. To better understand how this approach compares to other technologies on the market, explore our comprehensive guide on how to choose the right tattoo removal procedure.

Once your skin has safely lifted the old, saturated pigment via our saline removal process, you can transition to a beautiful, crisp set of modern Nano Brows or Powder Brows.

Types of Cosmetic Tattoo Removal Treatments We Offer

At Vita Felice Medi Spa, we tailor our treatments to your specific needs, focusing on the following:
  • Microblading Removal and Eyebrow Tattoo Removal: Addressing permanent eyebrow tattoos, including microblading, nano brows, powder brows, combo brows, that require lightening, color correction, or removal.
  • SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) Removal: Target SMP migration and blowout to lighten and remove the pigment.
  • Lip Blush Removal Beyond Vermilion Border: Safely fading unwanted lip tinting or permanent makeup beyond vermilion boarder.
  • Freckle Tattoo Removal: Removing unwanted cosmetic freckle tattoos for a natural skin appearance.
  • Emergency Cosmetic Tattoo Removal: Immediate intervention for botched or regretted cosmetic tattoos to minimize damage and improve outcomes.

Saline Tattoo Removal vs. Laser: Why Saline is a Great Choice for Facial Cosmetic Tattoos

Choosing the right removal method is crucial, especially for facial cosmetic tattoos. Cosmetic tattoo pigments often comprise different colors, and a combination of saline followed by laser (not on the same day) can generate the best results. We do not intend to diminish the value of laser treatments, as both methods have their advantages.

Emergency Cosmetic Tattoo Removal: The Botched Ink Advantage

Cosmetic tattoos gone wrong can cause immense distress and urgency. At Vita Felice Medi Spa, we offer the superior advantage of Botched Ink for emergency cosmetic tattoo removal, which significantly outperforms standard solutions when applied quickly. Early intervention is critical to lift the pigment before it completely cures in the dermis. Emergency removal is most effective within 48 hours and before scabs form, typically removing 80-95% of pigment. The sooner you reach out to us, the better the outcome. If you are within this critical 48-hour window of a microblading or permanent makeup disaster, please review our urgent safety checklist of emergency cosmetic tattoo removal dos and donts and contact us immediately.

If you are experiencing distress from a recent cosmetic tattoo procedure, contact us immediately to discuss your situation.

Why Choose Saline Tattoo Removal?

If you are unhappy with your permanent makeup or cosmetic tattoos, saline removal offers distinct aesthetic and skin-health advantages over traditional laser treatments:

  • Gentle on Delicate Skin & Prevents Scarring: Unlike lasers that use intense, burning heat bursts, the saline method relies on natural osmosis. This dramatically minimizes skin inflammation and lowers the risk of long-term scarring—it can even help improve existing scar tissue caused by a previous heavy-handed microblading technician.

  • 100% Colour-Blind Consistency: Laser removal targets specific pigment colors using varying wavelengths, often struggling with light flesh tones, reds, or yellow pigments. Saline solution treats all pigment formulations equally, lifting every color with uniform efficiency.

  • Protects Natural Brow Hair: Lasers can accidentally shock and damage active hair follicles, leading to temporary or permanent brow loss. Saline removal is completely safe for your natural hair, preserving your brows throughout the fading process.

  • A Safer Choice for Pigment Allergies: Traditional laser treatments shatter pigment particles, pushing them deeper into your body to be processed by your lymphatic system. Saline removal works in reverse—it lifts and draws the pigment directly up and out of the skin, making it an ideal alternative for clients prone to pigment sensitivities or allergic reactions.

  • A More Tolerable Experience: Most clients report that saline removal is significantly less painful than laser treatments, describing the sensation as a brief, mild stinging that subsides quickly during the application.

Failure to follow the post-care instructions may cause complication, scarring and infection and in the worst case the treatment may not be able to continue.

What to expect

  • Lightening and/or removing unwanted pigment is a process and patience is required. Oftentimes it takes more sessions, is more costly, frustrating and painful. Give the process a fair chance to work. Generally speaking, expect visible and wanted results in 4 to 6 sessions, but can be more or less.
  • How many sessions needed will depend on how saturated the pigment is, how deep it was implanted and how much needs to be removed for the desired result, what kind of ink and color was used. In many cases only a percentage of the density needs to be lightened/removed and then we can continue the correction process by color correcting.
  • We are creating injuries. You will feel soreness for a couple of hours. That is normal.
  • It may look darker before you see it lighter as we are pulling the ink to the surface.

What is saline tattoo removal?

This form of cosmetic tattoo removal relies on a skin-safe, carcinogen-free saline solution to lift and lighten pigments from your skin through osmosis. It is uniquely effective on all facial cosmetic tattoos and microblading, regardless of pigment color or age (except lip tissue). However, chemical changes can occur with alternative technologies over time; if you have experienced color shifting from previous treatments, read our breakdown on how to fix yellow brows after laser removal.

How does saline tattoo removal work?

We use an award winning Botched Ink saline solution that is designed to draw blood and quickly dries out, and deposit it into your skin, creating a hypertonic reaction. This allows the pigment from your tattoo to rise to the surface layer of your skin. As it heals, a scab forms containing the pigments and when it falls off, the pigment goes with it.

Can tattoos on any part of the body be removed?

We can remove your unwanted tattoos from just about anywhere, though we don’t do eyeliner and lip tissue tattoo removal. We do, however, provide removal from a lip liner tattoo outside the vermilion boarder.

How soon can I see results?

In most cases, results can be seen after one session, but it generally takes multiple sessions. Various factors, such as the depth of the pigment in your tissue, pigments used, and the age of the tattoo, play a role in how soon you will see results. Sometimes, particularly if you have done laser removal, you may notice a darkening of the tattoo as the pigments travel to the surface; this is normal and will become lighter with continuation of the procedure.

Can you remove my tattoo completely?

The only real way to completely remove a tattoo is a surgical removal of the skin, which causes scarring. With our method, while it may not remove all pigment from the skin, it can lighten the pigment enough for the tattoo to be gone from sight.

Does it hurt?

Unlike lasers and surgery, saline tattoo removal is mostly painless as a numbing agent is used to help you feel more comfortable during the removal process.

Is this a safe method?

Yes, our saline tattoo method is safe. We use a special formula that contains no acid or carcinogens. It is all-natural and very effective at removing tattoo pigment. However, a successful result requires you to follow after-care instructions. If after-care is not closely followed, it may lead to infection or scarring

How effective is saline tattoo removal?

Our method of saline tattoo removal is extremely effective and scientifically tested and works on any colors of pigment. It pulls pigments out of your body by osmosis, as our saline solution has a much higher concentration of salt than body fluids.

Please be advised, however, that sometimes the tattoo can become darker initially as the saline solution draws the pigments to the surface

Do I need to have a consultation first?

Yes, we require that you have a consultation before we can schedule your first session. You may choose to do your consultation over the phone or online for free. If you prefer to do in-clinic consultation, you will receive a 50% credit if you book within 2 weeks from the consultation date. A patch test is no longer required.

Are there discounts?

The 3-session package will receive 15% off. There is a size limitation per session.

Please also note that we can work on up to 2 square inches per session.

How often can I schedule the session?

For the same area, you will need to wait minimum of 8 weeks after the 1st session and the 2nd session, and 12 weeks after the 3rd session. If the skin has not been fully healed, you will need to wait longer.
